A Strong Start For Gordon Ramsay's '24 Hours To Hell And Back'

With the new show 24 Hours to Hell and Back,Gordon Ramsay continues his reign as Fox's principal reality TV personality. The show's first episode attracted 3.67 million viewers and was the most-watched summer premiere for FOX since 2015.
24 Hours to Hell and Backfollows Ramsay around the country to restaurants only one bad Yelp review from failure. After setting a timer for 24 hours, Ramsay sets out to fix and change the restaurants from the top to bottom. In traditional Gordon Ramsay fashion, he aggressively takes a cleaver to any mismanagement or carelessness he sees, whether it's in the staff, food or the atmosphere of the restaurant itself.
"We've added a lot of new elements to this that makes it different," says executive producerSpike Van Briesen. "He is doing this faster than he's ever done anything before ."
Ramsay lands in the cities and enters the restaurants undercover so in order to truly understand whatneed to be done. After revealing himself as the Masterchef star, the clock starts ticking.
24 Hours to Hell and Backis the fourth show Ramsay is currently hosting in the U.S., along withMasterChef, Hell's Kitchen, Culinary GeniusandMasterChef Junior. And all that hard work is paying off. According to Forbes, Ramsay made $60 million in 2017 from his various business ventures and television shows.
But as he proves in24 Hours to Hell and Back,success isn't keeping him from a collaborative perspective focused on culinary amelioration.
"When you work with Gordon, he lifts everybody up to the challenge," says Van Briesen. "This is a man that's flying all over the country to 35 restaurants around the world and got multiple shows. He would walk in there and really be there to change it and to make it a better place."
Even when Ramsay's can-do attitude, the show's mission is quite a challenge. The team had to completely renovate entire restaurants from top to bottom in real time in only 24 hours. Ramsay, Van Briesen and a few other members of the crew were up for the full 32 hours of each episode, working both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
"There would be a couple of hours during the night when there was painting going on, so we would at least have to get out of the restaurant," says Van Briesen. "But when we were out of the restaurant we were usually in Hell on Wheels, looking at whatever the menu was. Hell on Wheels is the big, million dollar truck."
Many of the restaurants featured on the upcoming season have completely turned around their failing businesses by listening to Ramsay's advice. Though he's known for his excessive and occasionally furious personality, Ramsay pitched the show in order to help people.
"Gordon's the only one who could come up with this, truly. It was his idea. He really believes in it. He has so much going on in his life, and he doesn't brag about it, he just does it. He believes we can accomplish so much more than we think we can."
